I hope that the rumors of OBL's death have not been greatly exaggerated. If they prove true (and right now it's looking doubtful) I am sure that regardless of how he died, his death will be greatly politicized. If he died of typhoid or of other natural causes, from the left we will hear that after all the billions of dollars and hundreds of lives spent on hunting down OBL, these efforts were all meaningless. From the right we will hear that were it not for the administration's efforts and success in isolating OBL, he would have been able to obtain medical treatment. And he is less likely to be seen as a martyr if he died from natural causes.
Provided, of course, that OBL is in fact dead, I tend to agree with the latter argument. But I think the most salient point is that, regardless of how died, he is dead. We no longer have to devote our time, dollars, and lives to tracking him down. One of our great enemies is no more. May he rest in peace, or in whatever other state Allah deems appropriate.
